Traditional French dinner at Aux Tonneaux des Halles

Dinner last night (Thursday) was incroyable!

We stumbled across Aux Tonneaux des Halles on our last trip to Paris. It's on a narrow pedestrian street behind the Forum des Halles, and lacks any real signage. The front of house was run by two guys, one at the bar and one host/server. The last time we ate at Aux Toneaux a young French couple was making out over a plate of foie gras and stinky cheese - ahhh, Parisians! This time a cute older couple with their three kids were next to us (they sat us at the same exact table too).

We started dinner with a Browned Pork Pâté, which came with a small side of greens and a large basket of bread. The pâté was house made and huge. We ate every last morsel, and I practically licked the plate clean.

For our first dinner in Paris we had to go with a French favorite: confit de canard. We had this on our last visit but we remembered it being very tasty so we couldn't pass it up. I have to say we were not disappointed. The duck was tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. For the sides we had mixed greens and roasted potatoes, which were cooked in the duck fat drippings. This is the definition of food porn.

Too full to eat dessert we set out for an evening stroll along the Seine.
